About Us

Welcome to The Divine Domestics! We are a diverse group of women who all have a love of hobbies that are typically considered to be domestic. We come from different backgrounds and have various levels of experience in our respective hobbies. We will be tackling all manner of things: cooking, baking, knitting, crocheting, upcycling, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and anything in between.

From a young age my mother and grandmother instilled in me a love of creating things. Both are creative, resourceful women who inspired me to carry on their ingenuity. I began sewing as a child under my mother's guidance while my grandmother taught me everything from beading to embroidery to crochet. Over time, I neglected my crafty hobbies to focus on academics until the summer before my Senior year of college. I rediscovered my love of crochet and knitting soon followed. Now the floodgates have opened again and I feel a constant desire to create. It is a magical thing to watch raw materials take shape in your hands--to fashion something that is at once both beautiful and practical--it brings a sense of triumph unrivaled by any other act in my experience.

I've always enjoyed being creative. I used up all of my electives in high school on art classes, and then pursued a degree from the Art Institute of Houston. I am constantly on the go - I go to Crossfit regularly, I work a full-time job, I teach an obedience class for puppies, I train and show my own puppy, and I volunteer at my local obedience club - so my crafty side gets put on hold a lot. I sew, decoupage, paint, upcycle, and from time to time dabble with graphic design. I'm a jack of all trades, but not an expert on anything in particular. Oh, and I love dinosaurs.

I'm a proud English Major graduate and member of the National Notary Association. In my free time, I watch old Nickelodeon shows on Netflix and try to sketch figures of costumes or outfits I want to wear for the next week. An avid reader of fantasy and sci-fi novels, I like to make my boyfriend spend large amounts of money taking me to sci-fi conventions in and around the southeast. I also write for my own blog, Observations from a Ginger, where my Ginger Cat and I give insights on books and other things that no one else seems to care about. I am also available to edit manuscripts and perform wedding ceremonies Friday through Tuesday 10am to 3pm EST.

I'm a self-proclaimed modern day "Suzie Homemaker"! I feel as if I do it all: baking, cooking, cleaning and taking care of my soon-to-be husband and beloved 90 lbs furry baby, Rocky. He can, without a doubt, provide as much destruction as two small children on a daily basis. Although I would love to say that I'm a stay-at-home housewife, I also hold down a full time j-o-b! I've worked as a Project Manager for a software company in Lakeland, FL since July 2007 and have to boast that I have my ideal work environment: great company, awesome staff, and energetic atmosphere. Although I have many interests, my real passions lie in all things kitchen. Peeling, chopping and sauteing can be extremely relaxing at the end of the day, especially when you have the kitchen to yourself. And nothing says I love you like a home-baked treat to finish out your day!

As a young girl, I spent my days helping my mother with her various craft projects. In the summers we would do anything from painting the rooms to sewing clothes to gardening and in the winters we would make jams, sew quilts, and bake bake bake! Our afternoons were spent making costumes for plays and ballets my sisters and I were in. I developed a love for theatre and through this, dedicated my high school and college years to learning everything I could about costuming and making clothes. Despite my theatre training, I became a teacher and my days are now dedicated to planning out crafts and bulletin boards for my preschool classroom. Although I don’t have as much time to dedicate to it, I still have a passion for all things crafty—especially sewing, costuming and quilting.

When thinking of my style of crafting, it could be best described as "a tornado's path of half-finished projects through my home". I get very inspired to make things but always become distraught when I realize that I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm sure you can relate to that! I love to learn from others and use their ideas to inspire me. My chosen hobbies are knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, and the occasional baking. I feel that my style of teaching is very practical and hands-on because who doesn't love having a war zone of cloth, glitter, and yarn strewn across their house!

I've always had a love for anything vintage and unique, and was lucky enough to have a mother that sewed all my dresses for me when I was young. As soon as I learned to take on the sewing machine myself, I knew I'd discovered my new love! I'm a graphic design student by day, and in my (very rare) spare time I love traveling and going on adventures with my fiancé, and taking on new projects and creative endeavors. I learned about upcycling clothing while in high school, and bought my first vintage dress in 2008, and from then my vintage obsession, as well as my collection, grew. When I discovered that I could marry my love for upcycling with my fascination with vintage clothing, and transform a frumpy frock into something new and totally wearable, I was hooked. The best part is, I get to be creative while keeping my wallet happy!
